THE COLORED MUSEUM by George C. Wolfe

"A Soldier With A Secret"
Main Character Junie Robinson

ANALYZING THE VIGNETTE
The Two Controlling Ideas
I think the author is talking about Being Black in America and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Example:
1. Junie Sees the Future on the Soldiers Faces
"I saw how J.F., once he got back to Chicago, was gonna get shot dead by the police." "I saw how Herbert was gonna start beatin' up on his old lady which I didn’t understand,'cause all he could do was talk on and on about how much he loved her."

Example
2. God or the Devil Spoke To Junie
"These Colored Boys Ain't Gonna Be The Same After This War.
They Ain't Gonna Have No Kind of Happiness."

1. The author is also talking about "supernaturalism" which is a popular element in African American PostModern writing. He also uses a Southern dialect which adds an air of mysticism.

Example: The Feeling of The Resurrection of a Christ-Like Figure
(Jesus said, "Feel My Flesh")

"I said to myself Junie, if yo' flesh is on fire, how come you don't feel no pain?
Hell, once you know your dead, why keep dyin' ya know? Cause just like Jesus went around healing the sick, I'm supposed to go around healin' the hurtin all these colored boys wearin' from the war."

2. Irony is the main element in African American PostModern art.

Example: Even though Junie was dead, the Medics Checked Him Out and Said That He Was Ready for Fighting.
On October 7th of this year, there was a rally and march from Walter Reid to Capital Hill in because the military has been deploying soldiers with PTSD called "Wounded Warriors" which some felt has caused another high rate of suicide.

3. The Author is suggesting that having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for Black Americans and Being Black in America is Pretty Bad.

Example: “Junie Becomes the t"Judgment" over Life and Death
He Kills The Soldiers and Sadly, This is His Secret.
